Dr. Ting Tang (唐廷)

Research Scientist

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology

主讲人简介/Biography:

Dr. Ting Tang is a research scientist in the Systems Science Lab led by Professor Yoshihide Wada at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Ariaba. Her main research interest is spatially-distributed water quantity and quality modeling embedded in integrated modeling systems at various spatial scales (catchment, regional and global), with a focus on water flows, nutrients, salinity, geochemicals among others. Other research interests include nature-based solutions for water issues and Remote Sensing applications in water modeling. She is keen to bring research into real world impacts and has been active in the science-policy interface through working with international agencies (e.g., UNEP, FAO, UN-Water) and national government agencies. Dr. Tang obtained her PhD degree in October 2017, jointly from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and University of Antwerp in Belgium. She has a background in environmental science and Ecohydrology. Before joining KAUST in 2023, she was a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria for almost six years.

讲座摘要/Abstract:

While more than 70% of global water use is used for food production, the agricultural sector contributes drastically to global environmental degradation, such as water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, land degradation and desertification. This talk will focus on water quantity and quality modeling and assessment as part of Water-Food-Environment nexus and management. Multiple applications will be presented, including integrated modeling towards assessing drivers and pressures for nutrient loading into the Lake Victoria, water-energy-land nexus modeling towards integrated assessment of trade-off and synergies for future development for the Zambezi River Basin, and water-food nexus challenges in the hyper-arid regions such as Saudi Arabia.
